About Toni Schwall

After completing his secondary school education in 1954 and an apprenticeship as a car mechanic, he studied mechanical engineering from 1957 to 1960 at the Vereinigte Technische Lehranstalten Koblenz (now Koblenz University of Applied Sciences), graduating with a degree in engineering (Dipl.-Ing. (FH). He completed postgraduate studies at the University of Kaiserslautern, graduating in 1969. From 1963 onwards, he taught metal technology, mathematics, and physics at the vocational school in Mayen. He retired as head of studies in 1996. His hobby is harmonicas. He plays the accordion, both solo and in bands, and restores his collection of approximately 250 harmonicas dating from 1840 to the present day, aiming to restore their original tuning to today's standard of quality. In addition, he owns a large collection of accordion sheet music and an archive with approximately 300 specialist books and articles on accordion instruments (history, technology, and instrument science). In addition to a wealth of specialist articles, he has published the book "Die Akkordeonstimmung" (The Accordion Tuning) and five volumes entitled "Die Harmonika-Instrumenten".

“How the accordion came to me...

...a collector reports"

Toni Schwall immediately developed a great passion for the accordion as a boy, back in the 1940s. To this day, he enjoys devoting his time to collecting, repairing, and playing instruments—even though he has spent several decades "in between" working as an engineer and teacher.
